Lipiflow® Dry Eye Treatment
At Fisher Eye & Laser Center, we are dedicated to providing vision solutions for patients in the Naples and Fort Myers, Florida area. We recognize that chronic dry eye is a common problem that can have a negative effect on overall quality of life. The dry eye specialists at Fisher Eye & Laser Center are thrilled to offer the LipiFlow® Thermal Pulsation System to treat Dry Eye Syndrome and Meibomian Gland Dysfunction.
Understanding Meibomian Gland Dysfunction
The meibomian glands are oil producing glands located at the rim of the eyelid and are integral to proper eye lubrication. Meibomian Gland Dysfunction, or MGD, is a condition that occurs when the meibomian glands become blocked. MGD causes uncomfortable dry eye symptoms, including redness, irritation, itchiness, excessive tearing, and sensitivity to light. If left untreated, MGD can cause meibomian glands to become permanently damaged. LipiFlow® is FDA approved to treat Meibomian Gland Dysfunction.

How Does Lipiflow® Work?
LipiFlow® is a non-surgical and non-pharmaceutical procedure. LipiFlow® utilizes a specialized device to deliver innovative Vector Thermal Pulse Technology™ (VTP) which gently applies heat and pulsation to the meibomian glands. The treatment releases blockages, allowing the meibomian glands to function and more efficiently lubricate the eyes.
Prior to the LipiFlow® procedure, your eye doctor will administer anesthetic numbing eye drops to ensure a comfortable treatment with minimal discomfort. You will feel gentle heat and pressure on your eyelids, and LipiFlow® is designed to prevent any contact with the surface of your eye. The LipiFlow® procedure typically takes less than 15 minutes in our Naples office.
